What is Behavior-Centered Design?
Behavior-Centered Design, or BCD, is a blend of behavioral science insights and design thinking methods that you can use to build a behaviorally-informed solution to an environmental problem. There are eight steps in the BCD framework that lead you from framing the behavioral and environmental issues and deeply understanding your target audience to implementing your solution at scale. Each step comes with a set of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) considerations, as well as various tools to ensure that you understand the who, what, where, when, why, and how of each step.
You can employ the Behavior-Centered Design framework while using the BE.Center’s behavioral levers to build an effective campaign, project, or intervention. This page offers an overview of the eight steps of BCD. If you want to explore the eight steps of BCD more thoroughly, consider taking our (free!) self-paced BCD course.
